Schools are great places to meet people. You can meet a best friend, enemy, frenemy, study buddy, sports pal, tons of acquaintances, and even a love. If you’re eyeing a fellow student and want to look for signs she likes you at school, I’m tackling 12 of the biggest signs today. Learn what to look out for in her behavior, words, body language, and anything else in between.
1. She lingers by your locker.
In most schools, you’ll have an assigned locker which is almost like your home base. You’re guaranteed to be there at least a few times every day and this girl knows it. I remember seeing all of the couples leaning against one of their lockers a few years back – it is literally like the watering grounds of the hallways. You’ll find her lingering by your locker because she hopes to get a chance to see and talk to you. She may be slick enough to find a friend to talk to in that same area or look busy as if she’s reading her notes, but don’t fall for it; she is waiting to talk to you, so invite her over and make her day.

2. She doesn’t leave class until you do.
She knows, more or less, where you are during the day and how the school schedule works. The bell rings, everyone leaves, and in three minutes everyone is sitting in a new chair in a new class. At least, that’s how it is for most schools. If you share a class or two with this girl, she’ll rarely be the first one out the door – unless you are, that is. She’ll either leave the classroom but stand near the doorway or wait for you to leave and follow suit. Again, this is all about timing and trying to sneak as much one-on-one time with you as she can under the circumstances.
3. She volunteers to be your partner.
Class projects come and go, and eventually, this girl will get lucky enough to have a class with you where the teacher says, “Choose a partner.” Only the bravest of girls – or one that is already your close friend – will have the guts to make the move and ask you to pair up with her. If you go along with it, she’ll be pumped at the chance to work on the project together, especially if you have to continue to work on it outside of school. Say yes and you’ll make her day – no, her week – but say no and you’ll crush her spirit. No pressure.
4. Her friends always look at you and giggle.
When we’re in school, our social circle starts to build our interpersonal world and shape how we will behave as young adults. As a girl myself, I can tell you that my best friends in high school played a huge part in my life back then and continue to do so now. We would tell each other everything, especially everything when it came to guys. If this girl likes you, her friends know it – trust me. Every time you walk past her, her friends are going to let her know because they want that spark to ignite. If they look at you, talk to her, and giggle, you’ve got a clear confirmation of how she feels.
5. She can’t hold eye contact with you.
Most younger girls don’t have the self-confidence to hold eye contact with their crush. I remember how embarrassed I would get at the smallest things back in the day. And if my crush was looking at me? Forget about it! If you spot her across the room, make eye contact. Or, if you’re close enough, maintain steady eye contact during a regular conversation with her. Chances are she won’t last even three full seconds staring at your beautiful pupils before she looks away. She may even get flushed if she’s really feeling you.
6. She asks you for the class notes if she’s absent.
The average high school class in America has 23 students. Community colleges average 35 students and large universities can have more than 200 students in one class. If she asks you for the notes, there’s a reason for that. You’re either the smartest kid in the class or the kid she’s most interested in. Which one is it?

7. She helps you out when you’re lost in class.
Listen, we all have that one class that makes us leave scratching our heads. Mine was math class, which might as well have been Mandarin. Whether it’s math or not, I’m sure you also have a class that is a bit tougher to navigate than others. If you look like you’re struggling or throw your hands up and tell the teacher you can’t tackle the task, this girl will be the first to jump to your aid. She’ll worry about you and your success and do everything in her power to help you get back on track because she cares about you.
8. She laughs a lot around you.
If you see her from afar, she may look indifferent or maybe even have a scowl on her face, but the moment you’re around she’s a happy-go-lucky gal. She’ll crack up at your jokes and have all eyes on you in any group setting. Laughter is the best medicine, after all, and she’s definitely love sick.
9. She tries to compete with you in gym class… or asks for your help.
There are two types of girls out there. The competitive sporty types and the ones that hate gym class. You were either a girl who tried in PE – whether you did well or not – or a girl who refused to change into track pants because you’d rather learn Greek philosophy than run a lap around the baseball field. No matter which type of girl she is, she’ll try to engage you in class. You’ll find her either challenging you to have a flirty competition or asking you to help her because she “can’t even” with these sports.
10. She passes you notes.
Notes between friends are fun and risky. Notes between crushes are exhilarating and also risky. That thrill of making sure a note gets to your friend and passes by undetected is one of the few exciting moments during the school day. If she’s passing you notes, especially if she’s trying to be funny or entertaining in them, she may just be into you.
11. When you catch her staring, she gets embarrassed.
When I’m looking at my friend, whether it’s on purpose or because I’ve zoned out, and they catch me, I usually make a funny face. Maybe I stick my tongue out, cross my eyes, or make some other ugly expression to try and crack them up and move on from the moment. If someone likes you and is caught staring, though, it’s extremely embarrassing. You basically feel like your secret was almost revealed, which is why she’ll turn away, turn red, or turn into metaphorical dust when she’s discovered.
12. She teases you.
If you’re in school, I’d take a lucky guess and say that you’re on the younger side. While some adults return to school – which is awesome – most will already have romantic strategies and may not turn to this type of video. That being said, this age group is going to have a lot of teasing and flirting overlap. Unless this girl is the school bully – in which case, just stay away – she’s going to incorporate a little bit of teasing to get the flirting going. She may say she’s better than you at something, pick on your style or something you said, or make a bet with you to try and get competitive.
